This Dulse is gathered by experienced hand-harvesters and sun-dried. This process ensures that the best seaweeds are harvested while also being gentle on the ecosystem. Harvested each season off the shores of Bay of Fundy on the east coast of Canada. Specifically from the Dark Harbour, which is known to produce the world’s best dulse.
The high cliffs along this western section of the island shade the intertidal zones, protecting the dulse from too much sunlight. Therefore, producing a darker, thicker, more nutritious and flavourful seaweed!
Dulse is a great source of minerals such as: Iodine, Iron, Calcium, and Potassium. It is also a great source of vitamins such as: A, C, E, and B-vitamins. Additionally, it contains high levels of antioxidants and moderate levels of Omega-3 fatty acids.
Dulse Flakes are excellent added to salads or soups. How could you find a delicious food richer in minerals?
*If you notice white, dusty spots on the dulse it is simply sea salt and safe to eat! Also, ‘grey leaf’ is a natural phenomenon that occurs during seasons when the ocean is warmer and calmer resulting in some leaves that are a greenish-brown. Grey leaf is safe to eat.
